From the federal government to private funding agencies to students and their families, these major stakeholders in higher education are holding colleges and universities increasingly accountable for student learning. Nested in this era of accountability and accompanied by a movement in many colleges and universities to renew their commitments to enhancing student learning through their curriculum, the purpose of this volume is to advance a representative, comprehensive, and diverse set of perspectives aimed at enhancing undergraduate students learning at the course, program, and institutional level and including general education as well as specialized study in the major. Specifically the purpose of this reader is to engage faculty, students, and administration in critical reflection and dialogue about the major challenges in conceptualizing, designing, implementing, teaching and learning, and assessment that deserve thoughtful consideration if student learning is to be at the center of higher learning.
