This is the 2003 edition of the United States Lifesaving Association’s
official manual. This comprehensive training and reference for
open water lifesaving is a required reference for all training
programs conducted in accordance with the USLA Lifeguard Agency
Certification Program. Coverage includes OSHA regulations, lifesaving
equipment guidelines, and lifeguard health and safety. The manual
has been significantly updated since the 1995 edition with new
photographs and illustrations. All historical material has been
